There are a number of solution providers that can help with implementing GS1 2D barcodes for retail and other products.
So, I was interested to read the other day that one of the leading barcode companies, Domino Printing Sciences, has taken the step of using QR codes powered by GS1 across their product and consumables lines.

Every product and consumable the company makes carries a code that resolves to technical specifications, safety data sheets, certifications, reordering information and recycling instructions. In addition, the change also reduces the number of separate labels needed on each item and improves traceability through Domino’s supply chain.
Beyond the in-house improvements, the project also helped Domino better understand what its customers face as they and retailers prepare for the wider move to 2D codes. The implementation involved reviewing and standardizing product data, updating systems to support GS1 Digital Link, adapting internal processes and training staff to maintain the new structure.
One thing is clear: printing barcodes is only one part of this kind of implementation. Data quality, resolver infrastructure and long-term governance determine whether a 2D code delivers anything useful once scanned, and those are questions for IT and master data teams as much as for the production line. Having gone through the process, Domino is well positioned to help customers get started.
