Leading labeling systems OEM HERMA has introduced a new cutting system that lets its AutoSplicer complete label roll splices without operator intervention.
Herma says the shortage of skilled operators and the need for increased productivity drove this new development.
I’ve been involved with several automatic splicing systems reaching back to the 1980s, and these early versions were fraught with problems – one of the drivers for equipment manufacturers to move towards redundant labeling heads instead.
While additional labeling heads have some advantages, they make linear labelers take up more line length and often push users into more expensive rotary labelers.
The HERMA AutoSplicer is one of a new generation of automatic or semi-automatic splicing systems that have successfully solved some of the previous issues with this concept.
“Manufacturing companies must use their equipment as efficiently as possible while at the same time relieving their employees of repetitive routine tasks.
The new cutting system expands the AutoSplicer’s range of applications and now automates the roll change regardless of whether the web detaches from the core on its own.”
Max Kunert: Head of Project and Product Management, HERMA
For many inline splicing systems, the operator must manually cut the old web and align the splice, but the new HERMA system does this automatically and solves the issue of the end of the web being taped into the core.
