Let’s face it: pressure-sensitive labels are not the most sustainable part of the packaging industry, although manufacturers and converters have been working on improving the footprint in recent years.
Paper products giant UPM Raflatac wants to make things easier for its customers by providing access to sustainability information upfront in material quotes.

UPM Raflatac calls these sustainability datasets product passport prototypes (PPPs), and they link to detailed real-time information on energy used, water consumption and CO2 emissions created for the particular material that is quoted.
“The PPPs already cover over 90% of UPM Raflatac’s label products by sales volume globally.
We are proud to offer this exclusive service in our customer quotes as the first player in the labelling industry.”
~ Flora D’Souza, Manager, Label Life, UPM Raflatac
The PPPs are generated by UPM Raflatac’s Label Life system, which is certified by the international testing organization DEKRA, and calculated all the required data.
According to UPM Raflatac, the new PPPs already cover 90% of its products and will be very helpful to converters when their customers ask for environmental data. They will also help converters and brands prepare for the EU’s Digital Product Passport (DPP) legislation.
It is smart to help your customers by providing this kind of information right at the quoting stage. It will help converters and brands make good decisions and prepare for future legislation compliance.
