I’ve always had a fondness for Bartender label software.
It was the first label design and printing software I learned to use, and there were times I’d use it just about every day, designing and printing labels for applications such as MIL-STD-130 and 129 and encoding RFID tags.
Using Bartender’s variables (with a little help from the tech support folks and some scripting), I created a set of templates for defense contractors that allowed them to comply with all the labels needed for their products and shipments, including the many data fields included in the Military Shipping Label (MSL).
So, I was interested to read that Seagull, the team behind Bartender, had merged with Mojix, a company specializing in real-time inventory and supply chain tracking systems.
Interestingly, the two companies announced a strategic partnership just over a month ago, and the news of the merger followed shortly after.
It does seem to make sense, to combine label design, management and printing system into the tracking software which will enable a more comprehensive package for customers.
It seems that the leadership of the new company (called Seagull Software) is newly appointed, and here’s a quote from one of them:

I hope that the merger and new management doesn’t change the character of Seagull too much – I always enjoyed working with that company.
