New Temperature Indicator for Cold Chain Logistics

For products that need to be kept at certain temperatures during shipping and warehousing, it’s important to be aware of any occasion that the required temperatures might be maintained.

SpotSee is a company that makes indicators that keep track of a number of parameters that are encountered during shipping, such as temperature, humidity, shocks, tilts and location.

Recently, SpotSee added a new temperature indicator to its product range, WarmMark®

The company has made temperature indicators for some time, but WarmMark takes things further by adding a unique QR code connecting to the SpotSee Cloud, using a smartphone.

When the QR code is scanned, the data from the indicator is uploaded to the cloud, allowing the shipper to access information on temperature issues, time, date, location, and serial number.

Of course, I had to scan one of the example items on the SpotSee site and was told that the item had been subject to a temperature excursion outside of the correct range and to contact the shipper for the next steps.

“Our simple low-cost sensors just got smarter, WarmMark QR is a cost-effective and sustainable way to track-and-trace time-temperature excursions at the box or salable unit level.

WarmMark QR addresses the biggest challenge by monitoring temperature in the last mile, the level that matters most, our patented technology, commitment to sustainability, and integration with the SpotSee Cloud makes this an indispensable tool for industries and products that require visibility at every level.”

Some of the applications where WarmMark QR can be helpful include Pharmaceutical Manufacturing and Distribution, Last Mile Delivery, Vaccine Shipping, Pharmacy Delivery/Ship to Home, Diagnostic Tests and Specimens, Chemical Transportation and Temperature-Sensitive Food Products.

Each WarmMark QR card is intended to register certain temperatures, and at launch time, the following are available: following levels: -18°C/0°F, 0°C/32°F, 5°C/41°F, 8°C/46°F, 10°C/50°F, 25°C/77°F, 26°C/79°F, 30°C/86°F, 37°C/99°F.
