Key Technology Debuts Belt-Fed COMPASS® Optical Sorter at Pack Expo Las Vegas

Key Technology, a Duravant company, is launching a new belt-fed COMPASS® optical sorter at Pack Expo Las Vegas, expanding its advanced sorting solutions for food processors.

Designed for wet, sticky, and fragile products that are not ideal for the company’s chute-fed model, the belt-fed COMPASS delivers high-precision foreign material and defect removal while setting new benchmarks in ease of use, sanitation, and ROI.

Building on the success of its chute-fed predecessor launched in 2023, the new system offers a horizontal design that reduces product breakage and installation costs.

“We’re excited to bring the belt-fed COMPASS to market after extensive development and testing. It opens new possibilities for processors handling products that chute-fed systems can’t manage.”

Jack Lee, Duravant Group President – Food Sorting and Handling.

Ideal for applications in produce, snacks, and other delicate goods, COMPASS features recipe-driven operation, intuitive controls that mimic smartphone navigation, and fast changeovers—under one minute between products and 15 minutes for complete washdown.

Powered by Key’s advanced NEXT sort engine and equipped with multispectral sensors, the sorter accurately detects and rejects a wide range of foreign materials and product defects. Its open, sanitary design supports long production cycles with minimal maintenance.

Each COMPASS unit comes with Key Discovery™ software, turning the sorter into an IIoT-connected data hub for actionable insights into product quality and line performance.

Available in multiple sizes and configurations, the belt-fed COMPASS is engineered for flexibility across processing stages—from raw receiving to final inspection.
