As the workforce ages, encouraging young people into industry is an ongoing challenge, and the packaging and packaging equipment industries are no exception.
I was happy to see that labeling specialist Fox IV Technologies has partnered with Franciscan University of Steubenville, Ohio, to develop interesting capstone projects for its engineering students.
The projects include developing a new method for label application and working on Fox IV’s core label applicator. As part of the process, the students evaluated the existing design, brainstormed ideas, created prototypes, and tested their designs, documenting each step and the results of each prototype iteration.
The student groups held weekly meetings with FOX IV to discuss their progress and challenges. These projects enabled students to participate in real-world applications outside the classroom and provided insight into a professional engineering and packaging environment.

It’s great to see companies such as Fox IV continuing to provide resources to help young people who might want to become part of our packaging industry.
