Domino Printing Sciences has launched the Cx150i, a compact piezo inkjet printer designed to code directly onto porous corrugated boxes for secondary packaging applications.

This new option joins the existing Cx150i version that uses UV-cured inks for non-porous packaging, broadening the Domino range to handle more applications.
The printer targets food, beverage, and general manufacturing operations where simplicity and cost are the primary drivers. Domino is positioning it as a more sustainable and lower total cost of ownership (TCO) alternative to print-and-apply label systems, since direct-to-box printing eliminates labels, backing liners, and the associated consumable waste entirely.
Sustainability is enhanced by the use of a vegetable-oil-based ink, described as nontoxic and nonhazardous, which supports both the recyclability of the substrate and a cleaner working environment — no solvent emissions, no factory air-management headaches.

Cx150i printers can be specified with either 32.5mm or 65mm printheads, and the distance to the bottom nozzle is 23mm (32.5mm printhead) or 32.7mm (65mm printhead). The Cx150i can print at up to 600dpi
With connectivity becoming increasingly important, the Cx150i integrates with manufacturing execution systems (MES) and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems via Domino Automation, with remote monitoring and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) visibility available through Domino Cloud. It can also be paired with Domino’s R-Series vision systems for inline quality assurance.
The printer is aimed squarely at the entry-to-mid-tier of the market – Domino suggests it is intended to bring direct-to-box inkjet within reach of operations that previously couldn’t justify the outlay.
For smaller- to mid-size operations needing to add barcodes and other data to secondary packaging, the new Cx150i could be a viable, more cost-effective alternative to print-and-apply for some applications.
