Packaging equipment OEMs have devoted considerable effort in recent years to reducing downtime and improving overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
Reducing downtime for product changeovers can greatly impact your line efficiency, especially if you have to deal with many products and short runs.

ProMach brand NJM Packaging has introduced an automatic setup system on the BRONCO 130 labeler. The system uses servo motors to automatically set the machine when selecting a product from a recipe.
“We developed this new automated adjustments option with high-changeover manufacturers and contract packers in mind. It reduces the time to changeover the system by 50 percent, which adds up quickly to improve the customer’s bottom line. With fewer skilled operators worldwide, we’re continuously collaborating with our customers to develop new ways to reduce their worker training requirements and ensure error-free operation.”
~ Mark Laroche, Vice President of Sales for NJM
To additionally help their customers, NJM has also added a similar automatic setup feature to their beltorque capper.

There is a trend for labeling and packaging machine manufacturers to look to automate the setups of their systems, and it’s going to be interesting to see which other brands join in.
